These Feet Were Made for Walking

This week at "I heart faces" they are focusing on feet. It is their way to raise awareness of the charity "Soles 4 Souls" which collects used shoes and gives them to people all over the world in need of proper footwear. So to showcase this great charity this week is all about feet!!

Just this weekend we went to the beach and I loved how all the water bubbles gathered at my feet as the tide went back out. The water was so cold though, but I love the feeling of wet sand and ocean water on my feet!

These are not my feet... This is the Albert Einstein Memorial in Washington, DC. He is massive and made entirely out of pennies! His feet were so huge it was amazing!

Naturally this week's I Heart Faces theme is "Celebrating Mom."

Well this Mother's Day I gave my mom the ultimate gift....

I graduated college. I have only seen her smile so much on a few occasions (my sister's graduation and wedding to name 2!). It was a surreal day and I wouldn't have even made it that far without my mom as my rock and supporter!

I have been waiting for this week's I Heart Faces theme for weeks! The theme is taking a picture from way back when and recreating it. Well, I immediately had my photos in mind!

These are of my cousin Eric and I. The one on the right is from 1995 at Eric's Bar Mitzvah, I was 7 and Eric was 13. I love how this picture shows the mid-90s fashion trends in all their glory!

The newer picture was from May 2008 at our cousin Jack's Bar Mitzvah (a theme is emerging!). We may or may not have been trying to recreate the 90s picture (I can claim I am psychic and I knew that 2 years later they would come in handy, but I won't...).

my window today!

What a change since my last "view from here" post!

Spring is in full bloom here in DC and it is glorious.

Last time I said that my view isn't spectacular, but I take that back! I am so glad the snow has melted and spring has sprung! This tree has just put a smile on my face and all the green in DC right now has helped shake off the winter blues.

I will try to do one last "the view from here" post before I move out of my apartment!

This week I Heart Faces is focusing on taking a picture from a different angle. I remembered this picture I took of my sister Avi and thought it would be a great entry!

We were having a fun day along the river in Philadelphia and I snapped this picture as she climbed the awesome spiral staircase!

I Heart Winter....

.... especially now that it seems to be ending!

Regardless of that, I do love winter! I love being cuddled up under blankets in bed, wearing nice sweaters, and my favorite - snowboarding!!

A picture from my winter boarding excursion was the first that came to mind for this week's I Heart Faces contest!

Snowboarding (and other winter sports) seem to encapsulate "bundled up" to me! You wear so many layers that you can get heat stroke if you don't make it outside quick enough! It's a science to make sure you stay warm for as many runs as possible!!

I cannot wait to next season, but for now I am officially hanging up my winter coat!

I love outtakes.....

I love outtakes. I miss the days when sitcoms rolled their credits with outtakes from that episode's filming.

Anywho... This week's I Heart Faces challenge is "Hilarious Outtakes." I so thought I had better ones to choose from and of course the one photo I want is not on my computer, darn pre-digital age!

This was in Oregon last June. My sister, her husband and I were out wine tasting and Ben always the jokester decided to pop in to the picture. It reminds me of that squirrel that popped into a picture later in the summer, you know, this one.

Lovely Hands

I Heart Faces' theme for this week is "Hands on Fun." Well, the story behind this picture may not be "fun" but it allows me to think of so many fun memories.

I took this picture on the last day of my Bubbe's life. I didn't know it was going to be her last day alive. I decided, with my mom's permission, to take some black and white photos of her. I took some wonderful pictures that day. Each one shows a women at peace, and my family savoring the damp afternoon with our mother and grandmother.

Nearly 18 months after her death, I love this picture so much. My youthful hand held in her aged and experienced hand. With those hands she held me when I was born, hugged me, cooked for me, loved me, and taught me so much. I see an image of my Bubbe passing the future in my hands.

While this was taken on what became a sad day, this picture makes me happy, thinking of my Bubbe at peace and all the wonderful memories I have with her.

The View from....

One project I am going to try to tackle this year is to take pictures of a certain place over a few months and see how it changes.

Now my view isn't spectacular by any stretch of the imagination, but I have a nice tree and courtyard and this could be a cool way to see how it changes ~~when the snow finally melts~~ with the seasons.

So here here is my first installment in "The View From My Window." As things change, I will post more! I will also be looking for other places to do this!

This was taken after the first snowfall this year, about a week before the blizzard moved in. Right now there is way more snow out there...

Cannot wait to see how the view changes over time.

I have decided to participate in the I Heart Faces contest this week again. The theme this week is "I Wanna Dance" - and well since I was a dancer for over 15 years I decided I should dance on in this week.

This picture I took the first year after I left my dance school. It was the finale dance and was so beautifully choreographed. The colors of the costumes and everyone's positions are wonderful against the black scrim. I may not be a dancer anymore, but I still love and appreciate it!

I Heart Places

There is a great photo sharing website called "I Heart Faces." They have contests and fun things but this week, in keeping with a valentines theme they are looking for pictures of people's favorite places or the most romantic places they've been too. I decided to jump in this week!

This was at Washington Irving's mansion in Irvington, NY. Last winter they did an amazing display on the grounds of the mansion depicting Rip Van Winkle in lights. These were at the end of the story and to this day think they were so beautiful and dare I say, romantic!

One major advantage to living in NW Washington, DC is being so close to the National Cathedral. It is so gorgeous and I love going to walk around there. Why can't synagogues be like this!? This was taken on a grey and rainy day and there was even a wedding happening, talk about romantic and just amazing!

This is in Philadelphia by the Schyklkill River, down by the Water Works. Avi, Ben, and I were having a fun time taking pictures there. I got some great ones of the happy couple and this picture just is so simple but at the same time has some great depth too.

Wow...

A whole year. Measured in pictures. Amazing.

Well, I did it. I successfully completed Project 365. Some days it was tough, other days I had to comb through tons of pictures to figure out which to pick.

I realized a lot this year, that there is a lot of value to stepping back, slowing down, and not just passing life by. I noticed things this year, on campus, at home, in my daily life, that I otherwise wouldn't have noticed or wouldn't have remembered without a picture memory.

That is all great, but I have decided to not continue into 2010. I am still, out of a new habit, keeping my camera in my bag/always with me, but no longer need to feel obligated to take a picture.

I will keep this blog up as a site I can post cool photos I take and I have some photography projects in mind to tackle over the year some check back for those.

December 31, 2009: This is it! The end on the decade and the end of Project 365!

December 30, 2009: What a great new year's resolution, don't you think?

December 29, 2009: It was -13 in the City at noon with the windchill, where was I then? Taking a picture of this tree.... Nuts, yes, had a great day, yes.

December 28, 2009: We joined COSTCO, thrilling? I think so!

December 27, 2009: We went into the city today. These sculptures are in Central Park right near the Plaza - they are way fun to climb on, at any age.

December 26, 2009: I saw Avatar tonight. AMAZING. Need I say more?

December 25, 2009: Mom bought this awesome jig-saw puzzle for me and I got right to work on it. By the Sunday evening it was done, possibly a new record!

December 24, 2009: I love snowboarding! And had a great 2 days on the slopes!!!!

December 23, 2009: Falling off mountains, is what I do best! The conditions were awesome and Mom braved the frigid temps to snap this picture of me as I came off the slopes!

December 22, 2009: I was reunited with my snowboard tonight! I love this board and so happy I was able to get it to take with me to Jiminy Peak!

December 21, 2009: Kids are so innocent when playing in the snow. And apparently it is hard work to shovel the backyard!

December 20, 2009: We ended up with about a foot of snow. It looks so peaceful after it snows.

December 19, 2009: SNOW!!! At 10pm I went outside, it was cold, and we already had a few inches, with more to come.

December 18, 2009: What are you looking for Reindeer? The person who knocked over Santa?

December 17, 2009: We have gone even more eco-friendly. I love seltzer and now I can enjoy with less of a footprint, thanks to our soda maker. It is so fun and was a belated housewarming gift from Uncle Lou and Aunt Lisa and family.

December 16, 2009: Rick Recht gave a concert tonight at shul. It was a very fun night and a nice Chanukah treat!

December 15, 2009: I love Chanukah, mostly because I think burning candles are so amazing to watch. It may also have to do with my slight history as a pyromaniac (I never burned anything!). The lights looked really beautiful tonight!

December 14, 2009: I had my annual appointment with my audiologist. I will refrain from making any "can you hear me now" jokes. You are welcome.

December 13, 2009: Murphy and I played tug of war with her bunny. Yes, I know its a chicken, but all her toys are called bunnies. She has a strong jaw, its crazy, she wins every game.

December 12, 2009: Happy 2nd night of Chanukah! The first night candle decided to burn 2x faster.... no one told the candle there is no race going on.

December 11, 2009: I went to the ballet at the Kennedy Center tonight. It was a delightful evening and a wonderful show. It was my Chanukah gift to myself!

December 10, 2009: Punch buggy no punch backs! Look at this classic car, so amazing.

December 9, 2009: I am making this hamsa pillow for my mom. I added lined in the hand to define its parts, it came out so great.

December 8, 2009: Time to sell back books. I made a decent amount back, now its almost time to order next semester's books!

December 7, 2009: What a beautiful sunset tonight! I also have to say that this is an iPhone picture and is really good quality!

December 6, 2009: Today went by like a blur (heehee, get it). I spent all day studying and prepping for finals. I feel like I am in good shape and am sure the week will fly by and it will be break before I know it!

December 5, 2009: First snow!!!!!! It was so beautiful! We got around 2 inches or this beautiful powder. I hope there is so much more to come this winter!!

December 4, 2009: And now it is really official. The official mailed acceptance packet arrived today. Mom took the picture and sent it to me! I cannot wait to get my hands on it in a week!!!

December 3, 2009: My first bit of Wheelock memorabilia! My mom was given this cup upon her graduation from Wheelock, 26 years ago. I feel so elated to continue our legacy at Wheelock!

December 2, 2009: The class I interned in all semester threw a surprise going away party for me and the student teacher. The kids made us thank you cards, it was so sweet. I will miss them so much!

December 1, 2009: I saw this beautiful rainbow from a stained glass window today. It was so pretty, at first I thought it was chalk and then I realized what it was!

November 29, 2009: Back on the train! Heading back to DC for the last 2 weeks of the semester, um very crazy.

November 28, 2009: I got an iPhone! I am so excited. Thank you mom!!

November 27, 2009: Mom and I took a walk this afternoon around downtown White Plains. We found this pub. Turtles are my favorite animal! How cool is that!

November 25, 2009: We were over at friends last night helping cook for Thanksgiving. Their son is a huge Yankees fan, I discovered this on their fridge...ouch....

November 24, 2009: I decided to play SET, by myself. I was rusty but enjoyed my time of brain stimulation.

November 23, 2009: I went to Boston, for all of 5 hours! I cannot wait to find out if the trip was worth it - well, it was worth it, but yeah you know.... This is the Park Street T stop - and apparently the first subway stop ever.

November 22, 2009: We met up with our cousin Eric for brunch today. This is pretty typical - faces and slightly blurry... it was a fun morning.

November 21, 2009: What a dedicated (and talented) husband. He can apply make up, and well! Avi you are really lucky to have Ben.

November 20, 2009: How cool is this? The Renaissance Tower was reflecting the sky!

November 19, 2009: So, you can watch TV in NYC cab's - they even have GPS. Got to love 2009!

November 18, 2009: I found a penny today, I hadn't found one in a long time and it made me smile!

November 17, 2009: I went a bit highlighter happy trying to find the right color that wouldn't shmeer, etc. Atleast it looks pretty, right?

November 15, 2009: Nothing says fall like squash. I had a delicious acorn squash topped with cinnamon tonight. Makes me get really excited for Thanksgiving.

November 14, 2009: So this is meant to be rotated another 90º to the right, but still looks cool. I walked into Georgetown tonight and had fun taking pictures of the wall around the Russian Embassy. The stones had an interesting color from the damp past 3 days.

November 13, 2009: Day 3 of rain! Thank you Hurricane Ida.... at least my wellies are getting a workout!

November 12, 2009: We took a field trip to the Apple Store today. The kids had a blast learning about iphoto and making photo books and slideshows and we got t-shirts!

November 8, 2009: 'Tis the season... time to bring out the humidifier for the winter months. I got myself a new one this year and am quite pleased with it so far.

November 7, 2009: Mazal Tov JSA! We had the annual Bar Mitzvah party and it was a blast!!

November 6, 2009: I follow the Kabbalistic (no I am not a Kabbalist) practice of wearing a red string from Israel to absorb negative energy around me. It falls off or breaks when it can no longer absorb negative energy. Mine fell off today after two months. Oddly enough I put on right around the time I sent my application to Wheelock and today I found out the last part of the application got there - weird!!

November 5, 2009: Z-Ville went to the Tenley Fire Station today. It was a great trip and we learned a ton about how they do their work. There were 2 calls while we there too!

Where did October go, really!? 10 months of the challenge gone - wow.

October 31, 2009: I spent my Halloween baking oatmeal cookies! I had a huge container of oats from making apple crisp 3 weeks ago and I decided to bake! They came out so good and my place smells great as a result!

October 30, 2009: I cannot believe Sue Thomas is back on TV (syndication of course). I loved this show - it gave me hope every Sunday night that I could go somewhere, well 4 years later and I'm somewhere!

October 29, 2009: I cannot believe that DCPS gets it milk boxes from Wawa! The closet Wawa, that I know about, is in Annapolis!! I miss Wawa!

October 28, 2009: A christmas tree, in October? Next year they will be putting up after Labor day...

October 27, 2009: I registered for the LAST time at AU - wow it is so crazy!

October 26, 2007: It's back, and working! It took 6 weeks but it's fixed (and I was right about what was wrong!). They were really nice and sent it with 4 packs of batteries: "My device went to New Orleans (3x) and all it brought back were batteries"

October 25, 2009: I shared the secret garden that I found in Georgetown with mom today - the fall colors were amazing!

October 24, 2009: Let the wild rumpus start!!!! See it! Really! It was so artfully and beautifully done - mom and I loved it!

October 23, 2009: Mom tracking. I love this website it shows were a flight is over land - if only I could use it while I'm on planes.

Little bit of catch-up!

October 22, 2009: This is the class I am interning in. They are so cute! They made models of local businesses and we put it together, they were so proud of their work!

October 21, 2009: One of these spellings is not like the other.....

October 20, 2009: Hanson was on campus?! Talk about flashback to 4th grade...

October 19, 2009: Back on nasal sprays..... oh well it helps me through the winter.

October 18, 2009: Dad and Barb brought fresh herbs from their garden for me, and I enjoyed them in my eggs tonight - so delicious!

October 17, 2009: LAMBCHOP!! We went to the American History museum today to see the Julia Child kitchen and I found Lampchop in the giftshop, oh childhood memories!

October 16, 2009: Woohoo! Gluten Free friendly sushi place - their sushi is out of site too!

Happy fall weather!

October 15, 2009: October or November out there? It was 40 and rainy today...ick. I went through 2 pairs of pants and socks. Gives new meaning to chilled to the bone!

October 14, 2009: I had a month and a bit more without Newsweek! Due to an address change and then a renewal delay. I was very happy to get my Newsweek today, my mailbox had only been filled with junk and bills for the past few weeks.

October 13, 2009: There is this beautiful, big, church across from campus. I don't walk by it frequently and today the sky was so blue it put a smile on my face after "one of those days."

October 12, 2009: The past 4 Mondays I have been unable to watch one of my favorite TV shows. I was very happy when I was able to watch the Big Bang Theory tonight! A little Sheldon makes Monday end with a smile.

October 11, 2009: I was so nice relaxed Saturday morning, since I didn't wake before 7 to go to work, that I must have taken Sunday's vitamins then - confused me a little bit on Sunday morning!

October is flying by already it feels like!!

October 8, 2009: I majorly dislike dusting. The one chore I drag my feet doing! I dusted 2 weeks ago and already this much has accumulated, ick!

October 7, 2009: It was SOO windy today! Up to 40 mph gusts. I tried to capture this poor tree getting pushed so far by the wind!

October 6, 2009: I had dinner with some JSA friends today in the sukkah on the quad - I love Sukkot!!

October 5, 2009: IKEA was true to their word. The box this bulb came in said it would last some 3500+ hours. Since I bought the lamp and put in this bulb LAST August I never changed it, until Monday... that has to be 3500+ hours or more!

October 4, 2009: I love ironing, it probably comes from when I did it at home in my high school days I was allowed to watch tv. You can see that nothing has changed!

October 3, 2009: Chag Sukkot Sameach!! We had a fin morning at Religious School shaking the lulav and etrog!

October 2, 2009: This little squirrel was so adorable as it munched on its afternoon acorn.

October already, really? How have 9 months of the year gone by!!!

October 1, 2009: This is my left sound generator. Two days ago it arrived in the mail after being gone to get fixed. Tomorrow it's going back in the mail to be fixed AGAIN!!

September 30, 2009: This is Minnow. Minnow is the class pet in the classroom I am interning in. He's a really cute (and chirrpy) little guy!

September 29, 2009: The sky was so blue today! It was the first crisp fall day we have had and was so delightful!

September 28, 2009: I spent Yom Kippur at Chava and Michael's. While breaking the fast Dovi couldn't decide on a salad dressing, and had them all lined up to choose. I saw a photo-up and Michael and Aryeh saw a chance to be goofy!

September 27, 2009: I laughed hard when I saw this. I know what it meant, but in my head I could only envision a sign telling me to beware of peds, as in the little stockings women wear under shoes....you know when they come out of the dryer their static electricity is something to be aware of!

September 26, 2009: I went out to have Thai food with a friend. I love the decor of this restaurant. There is a waterfall in one of the stone structures, very cool setting.

September 25, 2009: It's beginning to look a like fall! There is a damp chill in the air, the jeans are out, and the sandals are put away!

September 24, 2009: I mailed my application to Wheelock today. Scotty, the man working at the UPS store was so kind to take a picture with my application all ready to travel to Boston!

September 23, 2009: They finally broke ground (ceremonially) in Tenly Town for the new library! They knocked the old one down when I first arrived at AU...who loves red tape!

September 17, 2009: My dad met Chef Jen Carroll who is a current contestant on Top Chef Las Vegas and got me a personalized autograph!!!!! Is it sad I freak out for a chef's autograph and not the hottest singer?

September 16, 2009: I had to empt my kitchen for a pest inspection. Today I was happy I have 4 cabinets!

September 12, 2009: A new year at BJC. My 5th Judaic class is an adorable bunch and I am looking forward to a new year with them!

September 11, 2009: I was feeling exhausted tonight so I didn't go up to campus for shabbat services or dinner but ordered in much needed Indian food. I had never ordered from this place before and it was so good! Pakoras, Bagan Bartha, and Dal Mahgani...yum.

September 10, 2009: Mindy's aunt got a new cat. Her name is Gizmo and she's 13 weeks old. If you've never held a hairless cat they are really soft in a bald-fuzzy kind of way!

September 9, 2009: I got a new fridge!!!! After days of the old one going south I finally convinced the maintenance men it was dying and I got this pretty new one! No more dying foods!

September 8, 2009: Poor AU shuttle! I also didn't know they made tow trucks that big! Hope the shuttle doesn't have "shuttle flu"

September 7, 2009: Eli, Max, and I worked on JSA's 2010 budget today. In 3 hours we wrote a 17 page proposal, enclosed fliers from past events, and pictures, phew! Now we submit it and wait!

September 6, 2009: Play ball! I went to the Nationals v. Marlins game with friends today. I brought along my Nikon and its zoom lens! It was so much fun to use - wouldn't know we were in the second to last row by the looks of this picture would you?

September 5, 2009: I went out to our friends the Gaus-Grosses today and Dan and I had quite the game of Jenga! We had it 33 rows high (2 away from the world record) when gravity finally had its way! We had the whole house captivated and very still, even the cats!

August 31, 2009: I have never in my life seen so many pizza boxes made and ready to go. And mind you, this was at 12pm!

August 30, 2009: Flat Gabe is enjoying his time at AU with Brianna and me! Here he is at the JSA board retreat, he is an honorary member of our board!

August 29, 2009: I went to Mt. Vernon with Molly, Matt, Adam, and Mira. We had a great day even in the hot muggy air!

August 28, 2009: Eli and I had to shop for our JSA retreat. We were a bit lazy and didn't want to carry the bags far so we drove onto the quad and parked by the building we needed to go to!

August 27, 2009: No, this isn't a soap dish for my travels. Its my small camera's case! I read this idea in Real Simple magazine. The hard case fits most small cameras perfectly and it is nice and hard and protects your camera!

August 16, 2009: This is 13 Dartmouth street. Mom, Dad, and Avi lived there - it was Avi's first and only house in Boston before their moving to NJ.

August 15, 2009: Make way for Ducklings!!! We did more sightseeing today and went to the Boston Commons were there is this statue of the famous ducks from the beloved children's book!

August 14, 2009: We toured Boston today, the highlight? Touring FENWAY PARK!!! I was in heaven and learned so much about the team and stadium, next up a game there!

August 13, 2009: We went to Wheelock today to look at it as a prospective school - mom graduated there 26 years ago!

August 12, 2009: We drove to Boston for vacation/grad school searching and the Sox game was on in the lobby - so cool to watch them on TV from the town they were in!

August 11, 2009: We went to the amazing outlet mall today - I got some amazing deals and now cannot wait for fall to wear them!

August 5, 2009: Lemonade! The kids in my class made class made lemon aide today, it was so cute! Here they are with lemon noses - they are a fun bunch and their sour faces were adorable!

August 4, 2009: I went into the city to hang out while mom was finishing up a day at a conference and then we went to a dinner. I had some fun being a 'tourist' in Washington Square park.

July 28, 2009: The gym got awesome new treadmills, that have touch screens, and ipod docks, so amazing! Yes I was that person taking a picture while on the machine, I am a wack job, I know.

July 27, 2009: I drove by an entire lane that was shut down for repairs, they seem to be making some progress, eh? Benefit of the doubt, it was noon, and hot so it had to be break time, right?

July 26, 2009: Shiva ended today, we needed a mindless activity to beat the heat, so we went here, makes sense, right? We got some chatzkes and had some laughs at the crap some people buy.

July 25, 2009: Looking for a box of legos for friend's kids to play with I found in a bin of dolls my first baby doll, even though I moved onto my current (yes I admit it) comfort animals, I brought her up for extra comfort during this time.

Sorry for the delay - life took me on another journey this week.

July 23, 2009: Another day where I had no drive to find something to photograph, this was all the grandchildren and my Bubbe and Zayda at my bat mitzvah, it was also their wedding anniversary. My sister was 19, Josh was 15, I was almost 13, Shoshana was 6, and Yona was 4, His bar mitzvah is this fall, and we will be so sad Bubbe and Zayda won't be there to share in the simcha.

July 22, 2009: I awoke to a nice sunny morning, and there was a barge slowly turning around on the river. It was just me and the barge out on the patio (okay I was on the patio, the barge was on the river, you get the idea) and it was a nice peaceful moment.

July 21, 2009: There is a movie shooting down the street from my uncle, Going the Distance, it was the fun part of the week to drive by and hope to get a glimpse of a star, no such luck but I did drive by while they were shooting!

July 20, 2009: We went back to our roots to bury Zayda. We passed good old exit 36 where I grew up on our way to exit 17 and Woodbine.

July 19, 2009: Today my Zayda died. I had no energy to take a new picture but I love this one from when I was around 7 or 8 months old, I loved him so so much.

July 18, 2009: The worst day of my summer cold, thankfully it began to get better after that, but colds are no fun!

July 12, 2009: We met an amazing artist today, Michael Albert. His works are collages, some use food product letters to make words, so cool!

July 11, 2009: Hanging with Zayda - he is doing better, but still has ways to go.

July 10, 2009: We hosted our first shabbas guests in our new home. We had Erin, Yonatan, Avigayil and their Aunt Dorothy over for a lovely time.

July 9, 2009: So it seems I happen to like finding cool pictures of license plates. I find this one cool, especially since the first series began in NY.

July 8, 2009: I figured if I posted a picture of a new goal online it would make me accountable. I have vowed to be much better at protecting my eyes by wearing sunglasses when driving, and outside and the like - so far so good.

July 7, 2009: These are the spices we need to buy the most frequently. Not basil, oregano, etc - but these, we love curries!

July 6, 2009: This is Sivi-bear. We have one that looks like Sufi too. She got unpacked today and is now "home" with us. It has been 10 months since she died and 5 since Sufi died and we miss them so much!

July 5, 2009: We spent a sunny afternoon at the NY botanical gardens Edible Garden exhibit. It was really awesome and there is much more to explore over the summer!

July 4, 2009: We saw live and in person fireworks yesterday and were lazy and hung at home to watch the Macy's massive display on tv. Do we get points for the show we watched actually being in our state?

July 3, 2009: After 33 days of rain between June 1st and today we had an amazing long lasting rainbow! It reminded me of G-d's promise to not flood the world. It was a good thing to see, because after so many days of rain, I was downright ready to built an ark!!

July 2, 2009: Sun shower! I mean sun downpour!!! It went on for a good 45 minutes!!!

July 1, 2009: Happy 2 years in NY! We celebrated with a yummy dinner at our favorite Indian place!

June 30, 2009: I began back at the school I worked at last summer - I loved this license of one of the speech therapists - She sure helps the kids with this!

June 28, 2009: The red sign says "Mandrake" - ring a bell from Harry Potter? (Need a clue?) How about the 2nd book? Yup, this is a real mandrake - the plant used in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets to revive those petrified by the big snake whose name I cannot spell - cool!!

June 27, 2009: I love the lighting on the tree in our yard. It was a breezy afternoon and the combo of the leaves moving and light was too good to not snap a picture of!

June 26, 2009: We end up spending Shabbas with my Zayda in the hospital - the lovely Ladies' D'Satmar Bikur Cholim group cooked him a lovely dinner and I loved how the plastic bag says Reguah Shalemah (a full recovery). May it be so!

June 25, 2009: It stopped raining (finally) so I was able to plant the flowers we bought in our yard! I planted a day lily (the yellow in the background) marigolds, impatients, butter fly plants, and basil! It looks very pretty!

June 24, 2009: My cousins came over today and we hung out after seeing UP in 3D (amazing!) we played floor croquet - it was a fun relaxing afternoon!

June 23, 2009: After eating dairy again for almost a year and finally made mac and cheese! It was very good!!

June 22, 2009: It was the first day of camp at my mom's nursery school. I made this cute poster to hang to welcome the kids and parents. It is hard to see, but says "Welcome to Camp 2009" I drew pics of the class names: Red Robins, Smiling Faces, Busy Bees, Teddy Bears, and Sun Fish - it is off to a great start!

June 21, 2009: Happy Father's Day Zayda!! We had my cousins and Zayda over for a lovely lunch.

June 19, 2009: Ah the joys of a yard....I haven't mowed the lawn in 2 years, now I get to do it again! Woohoo ?

June 16, 2009: Oh look what Mom unpacked, me! For our eventually being mailed out "we've moved" cards I had the cute idea to have a picture of us "living in boxes" ever so literally!

June 10, 2009: All the movers left was a pair of socks. Joking! They fell out of the last laundry basket I carried up from the basement, after the movers left.

June 7, 2009: Wine Tasting!! This bottle, which was very good, was from the Lenné vineyard. THe best part is that we had no intention of stopping here, they had some of the better wines we tasted, and the best views, all around amazing wines - and they play on the french word "to smell" Le Nez.

June 6, 2009: Artichokes anyone? Avi and I had a blast at the PSU farmer's market this morning. The produce was so amazing (and photogenic) even better was the dinner we prepared later. These (not all of them!) artichokes, grilled zucchini, grilled, onions, marinated mushrooms, grilled kohlrabi, and grilled fiddle head ferns!

June 5, 2009: I went to the Chinese Gardens this morning before meeting Avi for lunch. These stools were stacked outside the tea house and it struck me as such an amazing composition. I have tried zen stone stacking and this reminded me of it - so I give you zen stool stacking.

June 4, 2009: This is the I'm in Oregon and you have to wait for the rest of the pictures teaser. We went to an awesome (AWESOME) sushi restaurant, they use sustainable and healthy fish - and the rolls, carpaccios, and presentations are beautiful. This is an albacore tuna carpaccio with garlic, and other yummy stuff on top.
June 3, 2009: When you are 6 feet tall - it is important to test out bathtubs for size. So mom jumped in and tried out the tub in one of our new home's bathrooms. Not a prefect fit, but she says it will do.

June 2, 2009: The 'before' of this shot should be the shelves packed with books - so here is the 'after' - it only took 20 boxes and 2 hours!

June 1, 2009: My mom's nursery school had their end of the year picnic today, and I joined in on the fun! I don't remember the last time I was on a swing set - it was a blast.

May 31, 2009: First dip in the pool!!! It was a bit breezy but I eventually braved the water for a full dunk! It was a nice break after 6 hours of hardcore packing....

May 30, 2009: After synagogue today I decided to pull out the Red Sox shirt for the first time this season - of course it was picture worthy! And even more it was artsy photo worthy.....

May 29, 2009: This is the Tarrytown Music Hall. I was strolling around Main Street today before my chiropractor appointment and since after we move we won't be around this lovely river front street as often I wanted to take a picture of this gorgeous facade.

May 28, 2009: And so it begins.... I packed these 13 boxes in an hour (new record) the move is coming up and the packing frenzy is speeding up!

May 27, 2009: We saw 2 rabbits outside our shul on the way home today! They sat there while we rolled down the window and snapped pictures of them! I love rabbits and miss the days of having one as a pet.
May 26, 2009: The car got new breaks today, big yay! No more shaky stops on the highway.
May 25, 2009: Mom's food trial today! She got to try almond butter and it went well!! She has had it a few more times since and she is doing great.

May 24, 2009: Mindy and Lisa got married!! It was so special to be there and they looked so happy and the afternoon was lovely. May they have many years of joy together!!

May 23, 2009: Okay, no lie - this is the only picture I took today - crossing from Manhattan into the Bronx on the way out of the city where we were for services today - not my best - but at least I took a picture, right?

May 22, 2009: Shabbat Shalom. What is important is the challah basket...under the cover is challah (gluten-free!) - It was the first shabbas in a very long time I have had challah - it was such a great way to start a special shabbas.

May 21, 2009: Hofsta hacking! If you look at the 2 hofsta in the foreground and the 2 after the steps you will see a progression of the hofsta hacking in my front yard by the local deer herd, yes deer, have been eating my plants!

May 20, 2009: This is the sanctuary of my shul. I love how light and airy it is - the picture doesn't do it justice and it was getting dark out, too. I was able to take this because we were at shul for the religious school end of year ceremony - otherwise it is Saturday and not possible!

May 8, 2009: I went to the US Postal Museum today. It was quite informative! This picture was taken in the stamp exhibit - dance stamps how cool!

May 6, 2009: I spent a nice relaxing afternoon at Barnes and Noble. I had to get a GRE study book, ick and bought 'Water for Elephants' as a special treat, one night in and it is good!

May 4, 2009: First, note that on the first afternoon of my summer (yes!) vacation I am in socks (it's 57º out). Second it is the message of my socks (brandname actually) that I am conveying - no nonsense is my approach to summer vacation! Not sure what I mean by that, but I have time to figure it out!!

May 3, 2009: Sudoku dummy no longer! After years of working on the 240 puzzles in this book I finally finished the last of the diabolical ones! I think I have had this book since junior year of high school...

May 1, 2009: I kicked the habit. I rid myself of the only food/drink I was consuming that contained corn syrup. I for months justified my daily propel as being part of my hour plus workout so it was "okay" but after surviving Passover without it I realized that I could go cold turkey and give up the corn syrupy drink!

Wow the end of another month, wow!

April 30, 2009: So after 2 finals in 4.5 hours today I regressed and played with these little wind-up smiley faces. And then decided to have a photo shoot with them in the natural sunlight coming in my window! It helped me smile that is for sure!

April 29, 2009: I was inducted into the Psi Chi honor society today. It is a honor society for psychology majors who excel in their subjects - it was a very nice luncheon and a welcomed distraction from studying!

April 28, 2009: I was so tempted to blow off finals steam and blow this dandelion puff but then I saw how many more were around campus and felt bad for the grounds crews who would have to weed them!

April 27, 2009: What a mouthful! I thought when ordering the "veggie delight" roll I would get your standard one bite veggie roll...nope! It was so good though.

April 25, 2009: AU has so many gorgeous lavender plants, and many other amazing plants around campus. This morning walking to the metro to head to work I saw the first lavender bud - not so aromatic yet, but I bet by next week it will be!

April 24, 2009: I got an iced italian soda (i guess they only come iced, hm?) today before going into an extra credit thing and was surprised to see the above on the coat. We (my family and me) have known that many plastic cups, etc are made with corn as a binding agent, which for my mom who is very allergic to corn - very nice to know that it is clear as day that she CANNOT drink from this cup!

April 23, 2009: I am a jury duty magnet! Seriously, this is the 4th time I have been called - first time in NY - and man they are much stricter on the whole postponing - in NJ, just mail a reason why - and maybe they will try again. NY - you enter a date when you are available and you better show up then - or dun dun dun....

Half-way through another month, wow!

April 16, 2009: There's the sun! It was a gorgeous Spring day today with not a single cloud visible. I was hanging out on a bench on the quad before class and thought the AU and US flag looked quite picturesque.

April 15, 2009: Today was the 11th anniversary of getting diagnosed with Central Auditory Processing Defecit and the beginning of a long road of learning about who I was and how to still be a bumblebee flying in the air! I am flying but an air head - I made the sign I am holding and then took the picture and THEN realized it was mirror image OOPS!

April 14, 2009: April showers bring may flowers because it rains so hard, it floods and the pilgrims float ashore! It POURED for 2 days straight, we do need the rain, but did it have to be 45 degrees and rainy, in April!?

April 13, 2009: Mailing my taxes, Uncle Sam dipped into the pockets this year but it could have been worse right? I mean it would have been better if I received a check but guess not!

April 12, 2009: At our JSA board meeting we also celebrated Rachel's 20th birthday with 'yummy' Pesach cookies! She was very happy - the facial expression is a running JSA joke of pictures of her and food.

Here are the last few days, Happy Passover!

April 11, 2009: I found a DC secret garden! Well it isn't a secret, but it is magical and beautiful. I explored Dumbarton Oaks today. It is an amazing garden connected to a museum library owned by Harvard (in DC, yeah....). I cannot wait to go back in a few weeks when everything is in bloom!

April 10, 2009: Take that Pharoh!! Jen's shul sent this to her in the Pesach care package (all I got was a chocolate bar and b'dikat chametz kit!) Now, what is a better way to celebrate Pesach then with a Pharoh punching bag?

April 9, 2009: Well I have a tendency to get injured on first day yom tov! 3 years ago it was a broken nose, this year a nasty burn to the thumb - the oven mit decided to not work as I was trying to take something out of a 400º oven!!

April 8, 2009: Happy Pesach!! Here is the pretty seder plate all ready for the Seders. Seders were great and very yummy! Chag Sameach!

April 7, 2009: Mom came to visit for Passover and she edited a paper...don't worry we had fun before and after the editing session too!

April 6, 2009: Chocolate Seder time! I led the JSA 2009 Chocolate seder and this shows how we replaced the normal seder plate items with yummy chocolate alternatives!

April 5, 2009: We spent the warm afternoon at Brandywine State Park - here Murphy and I are by the lake before taking a nice walk around the grounds.

April 4, 2009: GOT MILK!?? I do now! Yup real milk - it was an interesting experience - last time I drank this it was Nov. 1997 - wow-ee!

April 3, 2009: An early birthday dinner for my dad. That my friends in Tempura battered ice cream. I guess its like a baked alaskan - hot and cold - weird.

April 2, 2009: This Janney Elementary School. It looks like I will be interning here with the Special Education dept come the fall!

Well. Here I am 3 months into Project 365. It has had its amazing moments and photos and also some challenges in finding something to take a picture of that day. Some days I spend all my time thinking "what will be tomorrow's picture" or "oh no it is already 3pm and I have no picture." So after much internal debating I have had to come to terms with the fact that it is too much of a hassle and it is affecting my life too much to continue doing project 365. I will always look for great snapshots of my day and will for sure look for the beauty in my daily life because I know I have gained that over the last 3 months. Maybe I will try again in the next few years when my days are more varied and my life a bit more interesting. So until then thank you for following me on this journey up until now and I hope we meet again... you can also scroll down and see the last pictures of my journey around the sun.

April Fools!!!!

Did I have you there? Really? Oh stop it! I really was planning this all day!! Okay without further ado the last few days, and no worried I AM CONTINUING to do Project 365, so keep checking back!

April 1, 2009: JSA held a fundraiser at the local smoothie place today. We got a percentage of the profits from noon-8. I enjoyed a yummy smoothie and held my club, yay!

March 31, 2009: Have I mentioned AU is gorgeous in the spring? Here is a picture to prove that.

March 30, 2009: I saw this deer from my living room window along with 2 others eating their breakfast! I ran grabbed my camera with high zoom lens, attached it and grabbed this shot as the deer ran off!

March 29, 2009: Pesach shopping! Of course these two items I cannot and will not eat but they pretty much capture the spirit of Passover, matzah and gefilte fish. Okay so there is a ton more to the spirit of the holiday, I mean the spirit found in the Pesach aisle at Giant!

March 25, 2009: Loved this license plate! I was having a so so day and it made me wish I could have some Reiki done on me.

March 24, 2009: I walked by this coffee mug (a TDR one) on the wall by my class building and had to walk back and snap a picture. Nothing like a cup of coffee that is all natural (-;

March 23, 2009: A successful TDR shopping trip. I got once a week or so and a friend swipes me in and I come back with all the fruit I like for healthy snacking!

Almost 3 months in, wow!

March 22, 2009: I can easily not go outside on Sundays, but I make an effort to get my vitamin D. Today it was more spring like so I spent 15 minutes sitting outside and had fun playing with my shadow, I find it to be quite photogenic.

March 21, 2009: It's the beginning of Little League season. Dan was ready to go to practice way before practice began!

Here are the latest snapshots of my journey around the sun, although there have been more gray skies then sunny skies here in DC this week!

March 19, 2009:"They will soar on wings like Eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint" Isaiah 40:31. AU did a stellar job against Nova, but sadly lost but tried so hard. Regardless we showed Villanova that AU is tough and GOOD!

March 18, 2009: Signs of spring. I love how colorful the campus is in spring, major advantage to going to school on a National Arboretum. I found a lovely bunch of baby daffodils and there are tulip leaves beginning to grow everywhere too.

March 17, 2009: Another damp day but our campus had these banners all over the place in the pre-NCAA March Madness games. The icing on the cake, or shall I say shot, was the AU shuttle's logo in the frame, GO AU!

March 16, 2009: A gray and icky day back in DC. While it was a good start to the final stretch of the semester the weather made me long to be back in sunny and warm Las Vegas. I do think the quad looks nice rain or shine though...

March 15, 2009: Seriously, this is the closest I came to slots while in Vegas, and this was the airport! Being an Atlantic City girl, the slots were not the main attraction, the Hafters were!! Thanks for a wonderful trip!!

March 4, 2009: Happy early Purim! I made some mishloach manot for my friends at school, but it was a week early since Purim falls in Spring Break. They included, chocolate chip scones, trail mix, hershey's snack pack, peanut butter cups, a party blower, and a cute card! I love Purim!

Onto the 3rd month!

March 3, 2009: I guess my immune system is like the weather, it still thinks it's winter. I earned myself some antibiotics for a sinus/ear infection. Glad to get help kicking it before spring break!

March 2, 2009: Note the date at left! 6 inches in DC in March! Unheard of!! AU delayed until 11 which meant I finally got a snow delay in my 3 years here. I had never seen so much snow in DC, I of course have seen way more snow than this in my lifetime!

March 1, 2009: Chipotle! My first time and it was free. It was enjoyable, we braved the snow storm to go, but once again it was free therefore worth it. I got a veggie bowl, it was yummy.

February 28, 2009: Two months down! These are 4 of my Hebrew students. We finished a chapter on the Aleinu and they created posters about how to unite the world and the others made a world that is broken. I was very proud of their work!

I must begin this post with a retraction from my previous post. I will now make no promises that this blog will be food free but I will try to not do it often (first Chipotle experience on Sunday will be photo worthy!) Now we return to our regularly scheduled blogging.

February 24, 2009: Happy National Pancake Day!! Of course I had pancakes for breakfast. I didn't make them, Trader Joe's did, I just took them from freezer to toaster to yum!

February 23, 2009: It's the remedies! These are my latest remedies from my homeopath. I have 2 since I am currently in an altered state, so I take one for certain feelings and vice versa. Hopefully I won't be altered for long...

February 22, 2009: Peanut butter-jelly time! JSA made 200+ sandwiches for the homeless today! I love the jelly drip, the best.

February 21, 2009: I promise there will be very few food pictures after this, unless it is too good to pass up. But this year, all 52ish days of it have been filled with food adventures for me. This is my first DAIRY lasagna in over 11 years. It was pretty good, I didn't make it, I just reheated it!

February 20, 2009: A day at the spa! I so recommend anyone in DC/VA to go here! I felt so special and relaxed and my hot stone massage was amazing, I am so going to be returning to this spa!

February 19, 2009: Another picture where I am happy I have my camera with me 90% of the time now, the shadow looked even better in real life. There is a hill where the grass is that made the affect eye catching.

February 15, 2009: We also finally made it to the Jewish Museum's exhibit on the Jewish artists that were popular in the early 1900s in Jewish Russia, especially around Yiddish theater. No photography in the exhibit, but this book had a copy of one my favorite costume sketches.

February 14, 2009: I saw an Oscar front runner! It was also the first movie I had seen in the theaters since July, semi-pathetic... We saw Benjamin Button - a great movie, very interesting and beautifully done.

February 13, 2009: DEER, on my street! We were driving down our street and there were 5 deer eating dinner at the little grassy area - so cool!

February 12, 2009: NY bound. I was on my way home to NY for a weekend of R&R with my mom and to see my Zayda.

February 11, 2009: Well with the excitement of being in the 5th week of classes comes the joy of exams....I thought the notecard pile was inspiring!

February 10, 2009: I took pictures for a friend's ultimate frisbee event. This shot is of the disc I tossed then captured the picture seconds later. Pretty sweet, I thought.

February 9, 2009: Happy Tu B'shvat. Today I thought in honor of the holiday of plants I would take a picture of my plants. The snake plant has grown so much in the last few months.

February 7, 2009: Grocery shopping! I love Trader Joe's I get 75% of my grocery items at this truly unique store. I always look forward to having to go food shopping there!

February 6, 2009: Well, today was a slow day so I thought the best photo-op (yes I combined two pictures) was of the two cameras I am using in this 365 journey. Of course when needed my cell phone camera will be a loyal substitute.

February 5, 2009: Thursdays are cleaning days! What a better way to get ready for Shabbat then clean?

February 4, 2009: Well, since I am at the gym everyday why not document it! I love working out around 8:30am at my building since there are rarely other people there, nice time to have time to myself.

Wow, one month in and things start to get more challenging. How many pictures of snow can I really take! So here is the beginning of February.

February 3, 2009: Today's picture was one of those random ones. AU has tons of these mini-vehicles driving around and think it is hilarious when they park in an actual space - seems like it belongs in a toy chest!

February 2, 2009: Well, this looks better when I am not trying to take a picture at the same time. It is meant to capture my love of flipping onions in the frying pan when cooking. I really have the wrist flip down, so I did my best to share.

February 1, 2009: Go Steelers! Yes, I am still an Eagles fan, so I had to root for the Steelers since the Cardinals beat my Eagles... this is when the Stealers scored the final TD and won!

One month down!! Wow - this has already been amazing! It has made me slow down and find something memory worthy everyday. This month I captured pre-dawn skyskapes, cheese pizzas, birthdays, and meeting Ann Curry! I cannot wait to see what the next month brings!!

January 31, 2009: Tonight I got a free dinner! There is a restaurant called BD's Mongolian BBQ. You choose a bunch of meats/fish/veggies/sauces and they stir-fry it for you on this massive grill. I had a birthday meal so we celebrated again!

January 30, 2009: What a week! Before shabbat started I thought that these lights were just so simple and beautiful and captured the end of a hectic week!

January 29, 2009: This was one of those days where I was worried I would find anything photo worthy. But as I walking back from the south side of campus where I rarely am I looked up at the huge crane building the new SIS building. I love heights, but it is the falling I fear. I cannot imagine climbing up this crane daily!

January 28, 2009: The morning after the ice/sleet/snow storm. I thought the mini icicles all around the lights was really cool looking!

January 27, 2009: Snow in DC! Son of a gun! The quad looks really pretty in the snow, in my opinion.

January 26, 2009: I took this because DC was gearing up for the snow and with hours before it would start this plow was parked on the street, engine on, and ready for action. See above and it got its way!

January 25, 2009: This was taken at a lovely Thai place in Annapolis. I went up there with our friends the Gaus-Gross clan. Here are Isabel and Daniel with me. Later we went and heard Ladysmith Black Mambazo - very awesome night!

January 24, 2009: Okay couldn't pick for today so I am putting 2! The top is my first legally ordered drink! The bottom is me and my yummy cakes mere seconds before blowing out the candles! What a fabulous day!

January 22, 2009: While the fact that I got fingerprinted is far more exciting, yet sadly not post-able this is the resulting picture of the day. This is all my books/binders/texts of the semester - oh my!

January 21, 2009: Here is a picture that captures one of the purposed of Project 365. I was carrying my camera as always and when walking quickly through our spiritual life center this scene caught my eye - and I was able to capture the moment. I love those stained glass windows!

January 20, 2009: A new day for America! Okay, so I captures it on TV but it still counts, I saw it - my view may have been better (and warmer then those down on the Mall) and it makes it no less special that it was on tv! I am proud to live in America today and cannot wait for the future to unfold!

Okay so today's post couldn't wait either! I decided on a whim to head down to Georgetown to do some retail therapy (birthday coupons rock) and I saw this person!

January 19, 2009: This profile is the profile of the one and only Ann Curry. As in the Today show host who I have watched every morning since I was little. I walked out of a store and did a double take - she was in street clothes but looked awfully familiar and then I saw the large camera and NBC press pass. I took this picture 5 seconds before I got the guts to say "Excuse me, are you Ann Curry?" Indeed she is! She shook my hand and asked where I was from and when I said I go to AU she asked about it and then I decided to be polite and not ask for a formal picture and we parted ways! SO AMAZING!!

January 18, 2009: Here is a sullen Donavan McNabb with around 1:43 on the clock. It was clear that the season was over (oh and hopefully his career with the Birds). He is a great guy but an erratic player! Oh well!

January 13, 2009: I saw this while Grocery shopping at Whole Foods today - a definite "what's wrong with this" moment! I am usually amused when shopping that the gluten free mixes are often sold next to the viral wheat gluten. Oh well!

January 12, 2009: First day of the Spring semester, and what better way to start it off then by a picture of me! Sorta like when parents take pictures on all the other first days of school, now its left up to me.

January 11, 2009: This was on the train back to DC to start Spring semester. I usually am very apprehensive about beginning the semester but this time it felt good to return and I thought it would be good to take a picture of my "journey."

January 10, 2009: Okay not the best shot by a long shot (no pun intended) but i wanted to get a picture of me and mom on my last night home for a little bit. We were snowed in and hanging out watching movies.

January 9, 2009: This is how much (or little, depends on how you see it) light there was when we left our house Friday morning for minyan. Hopefully I won't be up before the sun for a while now, since winter break is ending.

January 8, 2009: This was the view at around 7am from the back parking lot of my shul. My mom gets there that early to go to morning minyan before work. While I was home for break I joined her, and got to see the sunrise.

January 7, 2009: Pizza! Dairy pizza! I made a homemade dairy pizza, after successfully completing treatment to reverse my allergies! It was delicious.
January 6, 2009: This is The front side of my shul - actually that is the entire sanctuary. I thought it was fitting to take picture since we spend tons of time there, espesially since my mom runs the nursery school.

January 4, 2009: In the last several years we have driven over the George Washington Bridge numerous times. This time we took the upper deck, the weather was beautiful, and we were on our way to an engagement party - made for a great photo!

January 5, 2009: Coming home today the sunset by the Hudson River was gorgeous and the river was all icey - the river may be toxic but it is scenic.

First 3 days

January 1, 2009: My new bed! After 18 years in my lovely twin bed I have graduated to a nice full, and a nice new mattress to go along with it.

January 2, 2009: My first dairy grilled cheese in 11 years. After successfully reversing my dairy allergy I enjoyed a perfect grilled cheese sandwich, not a bad way to begin the year.

January 3, 2009: We went to see Winter Wonderlights

at the mansion of Washington Irving, this was my favorite

picture, these are flowers of light made from milk jugs.

I found them stunning and the lights against the

snow is gorgeous.

Kicking off Project 365

I heard about Project 365 via the blog grape-vine and really took a liking to the idea of photographing your life through the year. I have always enjoyed taking pictures and do so often. The idea behind Project 365 is simple:

- take your camera/camera phone with you everywhere

- take at-least 1 picture a day

- post it to a blog or somewhere you can share with others

- explain why you took this particular photo

- see how your life unfolds during another journey around the sun

So here I go - 4 days down, 4 very different choices of pictures!
